“Steamboat, There’s Only One”

Experience skiing at Steamboat in this 1975-76 in this award-winning promotional film produced by Wilson-Griak of Minneapolis for LTV-RDI. The film simulates Carl Howelsen’s arrival to Steamboat Springs in 1913 by stagecoach. (In reality, Howelsen arrived by train). Producers used locals to set the scene: Norm Buchanan, Courtney Fairbanks, Diane Schleibe, Sunshine Bonsib, Doug James, John Oliver, and Pat Mantle. Sven Wiik plays the role of Carl Howelsen and Dick Randolph is pictured next to Sven in several of the early scenes. The remainder of the film is an interesting contrast of “cowboys” and “hippies” all skiing and having fun on the slopes at Steamboat.

“From Cow Town to Ski Town”

One hundred years of town history is celebrated in film and interviews by local film producer Frank “Smokey” Vandergrift. Early history is narrated against historical film and photographs and intertwined with interviews of notable locals. “From Cow Town to Ski Town” is one of the best films in local history.
