World War 1 Gas Mask

Created to protect soldiers from poison gas attacks

World War I gas mask. Created to protect soldiers from poison gas attacks that became prevelent during the war. The use of poison gas in warfare was previously thought to be too shocking for use. The crude masks offered little actual protection. This mask was issued to Robert Noyce who served in the 10th Field Artillery in 1919.
