HISTORY colorado TAKE OUT kits

Explore Colorado with a field trip in your classroom or at the museum! Learn about how people migrated through and around the state, about the industries that helped Colorado grow, and Ute Indians as early scientists. These hands-on history resources were provided to the Tread of Pioneers Museum by History Colorado through generous grant funding. (Grades K-5; Colorado History state standards adapted). moving Day: Colorado's Migration Story

This program explores the movement of people across Colorado from pre-history to 1870. Students become "experts" on one of the following cultural groups:

· Ancient Puebloans
· Utes
· Cheyenne and Arapaho
· Hispanos
· Mountain Men
· Miners

Museum staff will come to your classroom or gymnasium to facilitate this 60-minute program, or you can come to the museum. During the program, students explore artifacts, photographs and clues as they walk across a large floor map of Colorado, discussing the footprint each of these groups left on the state.

Pre-visit material will prepare students for this journey, while post-visit material will synthesize and expand their knowledge.

Western Work

This program explores the growth of industry across the state of Colorado from 1850 to present day. Museum staff will come into your classroom or gymnasium to facilitate this 60 minute program for up to 30 students. Students become “experts” on one of the following industries:

· Flour Mills
· Mining
· Saddlery and Spurs
· Ice
· Millinery and Dressmaking
· Sugar Beets

Using artifacts, photographs and clues, students will discover six industries around a large floor map of Colorado, exploring the history and impact of each industr

Ute Knowledge: Colorado’s Original Scientists

Students investigate how the Ute Indians used science, technology, engineering and math to survive and thrive in the Rocky Mountains. By testing materials, they’ll see how Ute people solved problems in the past and still do today. The program meets history, math and science standards.
